A salmonella outbreak that has slowly grown to nearly 300 cases in 39 states since August has been linked to tainted peanut butter, federal health officials said Wednesday.
The Food and Drug Administration warned consumers not to eat certain jars of Peter Pan or Great Value peanut butter because of the risk of contamination.
The affected jars have a product code on the lid that begins with the number "2111." The affected jars are made by ConAgra in a single facility in Sylvester, Georgia, the FDA said.
I have a jar of Peter Pan with the number 2111!! ACK! Threw it out immediately!
No better time than now to find out other PB options. What is YOUR favorite peanut butter brand?

Whatever brand is the cheapest (including generics)!!!
Skippy is what i grew up on. The Reese's is good too
Smuckers Natural is our favorite, It's not the cheapest, but it doesn't taste like candy. (And you can get it on WIC!)
Kirkland at Costco. It's an all-natural peanut butter (no trans-fats), tastes great and comes in a 2 pack.
Kraft - hands down. They have a organic/natural variety as well - great for dipping apple slices.
Interesting! I don't think I ever gave much thought to peanut butter before but organic or all-natural definitely sounds the way to go. We're that way about so many other things!
JIF all the way!! =)
I had to go look in the cupboard! ROTFL HUBBY is a Jiff man... me, I could care less. Actually that is not true, I really like the Smuckers All Natural, the oil rises and you have to mix it... it just tastes more fresh to me and I really like that!
To be honest until a few years ago I didn't eat peanuts and only occasionally PB but lately I have been eating more PB&J since Big J has taken to making them for snacks for everyone. He makes them SO good... they taste just like Moms! LOL
we buy peter pan. with a product code of 2111, apparently.
the jar is almost empty, and no one is sick! do i throw it out, or not?
probably so, just for the sake of my conscience.
I don't like sugar in my peanut butter so I buy the organic stuff that is like cement that you keep in your refrigerator.
Maranantha.....I think that's what it's called. It's natural PB, but doesn't separate like Adams. Costco usually has it, or your local co-op. It's hard to move the kids over to the more organic stuff, but don't give up.
We eat the Better'n Peanut Butter brand sold at Trader Joes. Really low in fat and actually tastes like PB to me!!
I only buy Jif Reduced Fat. Sounds gross but I actually like it better than regular Jif. I've tried all natural PB and it usually tastes like paste but I did find that Trader Joe's brand all natural WITH salt actually tastes sweet!
